It is a great pleasure to announce that DESMI Pumping Technology A/S and DESMI Ocean Guard A/S have signed a license agreement regarding DESMI Ocean Guard ballast water treatment systems. With this agreement DESMI Pumping Technology A/S has been awarded the global exclusivity for marketing, sales and manufacturing of DESMI Ocean Guard ballast water treatment systems. The agreement is an extension of an existing agreement regarding sales and marketing activities only.
Both parties are very pleased with this agreement. “DESMI was the natural choice when selecting a manufacturer of our ballast water treatment systems. For more than half a century DESMI has manufactured and sold pumps and systems to the marine segment all over the world, and with factories producing more than 13,000 pumps per year in Denmark and China, DESMI has the resources to meet the demand for ballast water treatment systems around the world”, says Rasmus Folsø, CEO of DESMI Ocean Guard A/S. “In this business it is not enough to have a good product. Global sales and technical support functions are a must, and large production facilities with well established procurement and quality control procedures are of paramount importance as well”, he continues.
For DESMI Pumping Technology A/S the license agreement represents a logical step in the company’s ambitious “Next Level” strategy. “DESMI Pumping Technology A/S knows the business and the demands from the shipowner and shipbuilder, so our expertise and experience are definitely strengths that we will benefit from. DESMI Ocean Guard A/S was established by A.P. Moller – Maersk A/S, DESMI A/S and Skjølstrup & Grønborg ApS in 2009. The company is located in Aalborg, Denmark, and its main activity is development of systems for removal of living organisms from ballast water discharged by ships. Such systems are required to be installed on the world fleet according to the IMO (International Maritime Organization) ballast water management convention. It is anticipated that between 50,000 – 70,000 vessels need to install ballast water treatment systems in the period up to 2019, so the market potential is great.
