ROTAN ® FAQ'S

Do you have a question?

On this page you will find the most frequently asked questions about our ROTAN® Gear Pumps

FAQ

Are ROTAN® Pumps dimensionally interchangeable with competitive products?

Yes and No. In cases where the competitive pump is a direct copy of ROTAN®, we obviously can supply the "real" pump. In other cases, it is highly likely that there will be a ROTAN® model that will "fit", and that it will have a capacity sufficiently close to the pump being replaced, so that existing drive equipment can be utilized.

FAQ

Does ROTAN® supply parts for other manufacturer's pumps?

No, ROTAN® parts are not dimensionally interchangeable with competitor's pumps. The one exception is where the competitor has "cloned" ROTAN®.

FAQ

What is the direction of pumping?

All ROTAN® pumps work equally well in both directions, and pumping direction is determined by the driver's direction of rotation. Seen from the pumpshaft end, clockwise rotation will pump from right to left and vice versa. If fitted, the relief valve should be oriented, so the part containing the spring is on the suction side.

FAQ

Is a ROTAN® pump self-priming?

Yes, ROTAN® pumps have excellent suction capabilities. When operating under low suction pressure conditions, it is always a good idea to do an NPSH calculation as part of the selection process.

FAQ

How long will a ROTAN® pump last?

This is highly dependent on the operating conditions and optimal initial selection of pump configuration. Rotan pumps have been known to operate continuously in excess of 30 years without maintenance when handling lubricating products. On the other hand, some installations are so arduous (viz. high degree of abrasive content), that the pumps are overhauled at intervals of just a few weeks.

FAQ

What is the highest pressure?

Again, this is dependent on many parameters. In general terms, ROTAN® pumps are available for system pressures up to 500 PSI and differential pressures to 300 PSI.
