Why does liquid CO₂ transport require a dedicated pumping solution?
Dedicated solutions are essential because liquid CO₂ behaves differently than traditional liquefied gases like LPG or LNG. While established pumps focus on explosion protection and boil-off for flammable hydrocarbons, CO₂ infrastructure demands a focus on hydraulic stability.
Operating at high density near its thermodynamic limits, CO₂ is highly sensitive to pressure changes and flashing, particularly in low NPSH conditions. Consequently, pumps must be specifically engineered to handle frequent start-stop cycles and varying tank levels to maintain stable, single-phase flow within CCS transport systems.
