Corporate Social Responsibility
Besides our History, Vision, Mission and Values, CSR is a fundamental part of DESMI’s DNA, and a part of making DESMI the company that we are and that our customers and suppliers know. Focusing on CSR also means that our employees are a part of the responsibility that comes with it and the aim of keeping our good image, ethics and responsibility.
Image, ethics and conduct, corporate social responsibility, environmental impact are all integrated in the overall DESMI group strategy as it is our conviction that respect for the individual and sustainable products and production must be the basis of continued growth of the group. In this respect we have so far primarily focused on our own activities - but we are also convinced that our best opportunity to improve our impact on the external environment is by developing products, concepts and solutions that support a reduction in energy consumption and thus reducing their environmental impact.
Consequently we attach great importance to ensuring that our products are designed, manufactured, used and disposed of in an environmentally sound way and working on ensuring that at any time all companies in the group can implement an environmental certification in accordance with the ISO 14001 standard.
Examples of activities and developments to the benefit of our environment.
We will seek to base our work on a corporate social responsibility within all group companies and DESMI support the concept behind UN Global Compact, which means that we operate in ways that, we at a minimum, meet fundamental responsibilities in the areas of human rights, labour, environment and anti-corruption.
DESMI has taken part in Green Ship of the Future, where the overall aim was to establish a network for research, development, and innovation within technology and methods for reduction of emission from ships.
Pumps for free is a concept for energy check on-board ships which was developed in 2009, and we have seen several examples of considerable energy savings, reduction of fuel consumption and emissions by optimizing the systems connected to the pumps delivered by the group. We are offering these pumps and Optisave Systems in a concept called “pumps for free,” meaning the ship-owner only pays according to actual savings.
Furthermore we initiated co-operation with A. P. Møller Mærsk A/S and Skjølstrup & Grønborg ApS on development of ballast water treatment systems with focus on avoiding invasive biology to be spread unintended around the globe. The development is handled by the company DESMI Ocean Guard A/S and continues.
In 2009 we have developed equipment for recovery of oil spills in icy waters. As a consequence of global warming it is possible to open new shipping routes in icy waters, which involves the risk of wrecks and oil spills in waters with a sensitive ecosystem and therefore also the need for equipment for recovery of oil spills that can function in these waters.
Continuous development is on-going in line with above.
